Charlotte, NC — August 16, 2002   The UBC (Ultimate Body Challenge) continues to inspire students and creativity in team building and now possibly new products. While a new UBC student at Charlotte Martial Arts Academy in Charlotte, NC the designer, Susan Martin of ScubaDoRags™ was wearing her hats to contain hair and to keep perspiration off of her face. During “Crazy Hat Week” she invited others to try them and they liked them too.

Developed originally for the sport of scuba diving, ScubaDoRags™ successfully fill the need of divers to keep free-flowing hair out of their eyes. It also provides fast-drying protection from the sun for bare-scalped divers and boaters. Made of Spandex for its quick-drying and fabric-stretching qualities, a ScubaDoRag™ stretches over the head allowing wearers to tuck their hair under it or tie around it. The colorful dive caps have caught on with its intended audience, but their appeal is spreading now into the martial arts arena.

When Sensei Mary Roberts and Sensei Michael Price, regional directors of NAPMA and owners of the school saw the potential merits, they purchased some to try under their headgear for sparring classes.

“I love using my Scuba Do Rag!! When fighting in my Martial Arts classes with other Black Belts, keeping my vision clear is important to me. My ScubaDoRag corrals my hair and keeps the sweat out of my eyes. The stretchy fabrics stay in place better than my old bandanna. In fact, I wore it swimming to keep the sun off of my head. They are wonderful to use!!” Sensei Michael R. Price,
